ASR

Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics High School has established The Advanced Science Research (ASR) Program in partnership with SUNY Albany. Students are able to earn up to 12 science elective credits through the university.

Established in 1999, ASR is a three-year research program for student to design a research topic, connect with mentors, and begin experimental or theoretical research in university laboratories under the supervision of faculty. Through the implementation of this program, students in MCSM are provided with extraordinary opportunities to work with scientists in cutting-edge scientific fields. Students in the ASR program have received more than 526 external recognitions, awards, and scholarships from major science research foundations and competition from major science research foundations and competitions that include the New York City Science and Engineering Fair (NYCSEF), The American Rocket Challenge (TARC). ASR also partners with the American Museum of Natural History, Urban Barcoding Research Program, Billion Oysters Project, Biobus, Scientists in Residence Program, Research Ready Program, among others.

Thanks to the generous grant awarded from ConEdison, the students are able to pursue any field of research they would like. Research proposals have included:

Cells (Mt. Sinai), Astronomy (AMNH),Engineering (Go Cart, Rover, Rockets, etc.),

Marine (Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory), Neurology (Mt. Sinai, AMNH)

Students interested in applying to the Advanced Science Research Program will be invited to do so at the end of their freshman year.
